Metal detecting is about to get considerably more competitive.

Minelab's Race to the Realm 2026 has officially reached its Final stage. After three qualification rounds spanning May through August, 15 detectorists have advanced to the Final, where Minelab says they will compete over two days in real-world metal detecting challenges.

And the stakes are substantial: the first-place finisher is set to receive $100,000 in cash.

What Is Minelab Race to the Realm?

Race to the Realm is a national metal detecting competition created by Minelab Americas and connected with The Realm by Minelab.

Instead of relying on one traditional seeded hunt, Minelab structured qualification around a points competition involving digital participation, community activities, assignments, eligible events and other challenges.

Competitors accumulated points during three qualification periods in an attempt to reach the top of the leaderboard and qualify for the in-person Final.

Is Race to the Realm Still Running?

Minelab states that the Race to the Realm qualification period ended on August 19, 2026.

KarmaPoints earned after the qualification deadline do not count toward the 2026 Race to the Realm qualification standings.

The Realm itself continues, however, and Minelab says participants can continue earning KarmaPoints for possible future contests and opportunities.

Minelab also says that all 15 finalists will enter the Final with a new Minelab detector.

How Did Detectorists Qualify for the Final?

The main Race to the Realm Challenge used a points-based qualification system. Participants completed eligible actions and challenges both inside and outside The Realm.

According to Minelab's Official Rules, a participant could potentially accumulate as many as 220,000 total Challenge points.

Evergreen Actions

Evergreen activities provided opportunities to accumulate points that could carry forward across qualification periods. Categories included:

• Eligible product-affinity or live-challenge activities
• Rewards-related activities

Special Assignments

Minelab also provided Special Assignment point opportunities during individual qualification periods.

Unlike eligible Evergreen points, Special Assignment points were tied to the applicable Entry Period and did not simply carry into subsequent rounds.

That structure rewarded continued participation instead of allowing competitors to rely entirely on an early lead.

How Were the 15 Finalists Selected?

Competitors were ranked according to verified point totals during each qualification round.

Minelab's Official Rules provided for the top five high scores from each Entry Period to potentially qualify, subject to verification and the other conditions contained in the rules.

The rules even included a tiebreaking procedure involving knowledge of products and the metal detecting industry, adding another skill component to qualification.
