The Teknetics Gamma 6000 Metal Detector is a lightweight, versatile VLF detector designed for coin hunting, jewelry hunting, relic hunting, and general-purpose treasure detecting.

Operating at 7.69 kHz, the Gamma 6000 combines detailed numeric Target ID with adjustable discrimination, multiple notch settings, selectable audio tones, Ground Grab® computerized ground balancing, manual ground balance, and dedicated no-motion pinpointing.

This package includes an 8" waterproof concentric search coil, providing a useful balance of target separation, maneuverability, and ground coverage for parks, yards, fields, old home sites, and other everyday detecting locations.

Key Features

  • 7.69 kHz VLF Operating Frequency – Provides versatile performance for coins, jewelry, relics, and other common treasure targets.

  • 8" Waterproof Concentric Search Coil – Offers precise target response and good maneuverability in parks, yards, fields, and tighter detecting locations.

  • Numeric Target ID – Displays a two-digit target value to help evaluate detected objects before digging.

  • Ground Grab® Computerized Ground Balance – Quickly compensates for ground mineralization for easier setup in changing soil conditions.

  • Manual Ground Balance – Provides additional control when hunting difficult or highly mineralized ground.

  • Ground Mineralization Readout – Displays information about the mineralization beneath the search coil.

  • Adjustable Discrimination – Helps reduce responses from unwanted targets.

  • Multiple Notch System – Allows selected target categories to be accepted or rejected for more customized searching.

  • Selectable 1, 2, 3 or 4-Tone Audio ID – Customize audio feedback around your detecting style and target preferences.

  • 05–99 Sensitivity Adjustment – Provides fine control over detector sensitivity for changing site and EMI conditions.

  • 0–10 Volume Control – Adjust speaker volume directly from the detector.

  • All Metals Mode – Search without conventional target discrimination when maximum target information is preferred.

  • No-Motion Pinpoint Mode – Helps accurately locate the center and approximate depth of a detected target.

  • Real-Time Depth Information – Provides visual depth information to assist with target recovery.

  • Large LCD Display – Clearly presents Target ID, target categories, depth, settings, and ground information.

  • Lightweight Construction – Approximately 2.3 pounds for comfortable extended detecting sessions.

  • 20–25 Hour Battery Life – Operates from a single 9V alkaline battery.

Who Is the Teknetics Gamma 6000 Best For?

The Gamma 6000 is an excellent choice for detectorists who want more control than a basic entry-level detector without moving into an overly complicated platform.

It is particularly well suited for:

  • Coin shooting

  • Jewelry hunting

  • Relic hunting

  • Parks and residential yards

  • Old home sites

  • Fields and open ground

  • Mineralized soil

  • Beginners ready for more advanced controls

  • Experienced hobbyists looking for a lightweight general-purpose detector

Its combination of automatic and manual ground balancing, adjustable discrimination, multiple notch options, and customizable audio makes the Gamma 6000 adaptable to a wide variety of hunting conditions.

7.69 kHz VLF Performance

The Gamma 6000 operates at 7.69 kHz, a versatile VLF frequency suited to general-purpose treasure detecting.

It provides a useful balance for finding common targets such as:

  • Coins

  • Rings and jewelry

  • Relics

  • Tokens

  • Brass and copper objects

  • Other everyday treasure targets

This makes the Gamma 6000 a practical detector for users who regularly move between different types of detecting sites rather than specializing in only one target type.

8" Waterproof Concentric Search Coil

The included 8-inch open-frame concentric search coil provides a good combination of maneuverability, target response, and ground coverage.

Its manageable size makes it particularly useful when searching:

  • Parks

  • Residential yards

  • Around trees and landscaping

  • Trashier locations

  • Old home sites

  • Areas with limited room to sweep

The search coil is waterproof, allowing it to be used in wet grass and shallow water.

Keep the detector's control housing dry when detecting around water.

Numeric Target Identification

The Gamma 6000 provides a two-digit numeric Target ID along with visual target categories on its LCD display.

Target ID gives you additional information about the probable conductivity of a detected object before you dig.

A repeatable Target ID from several passes can help you make a more informed digging decision, although target depth, orientation, nearby objects, and soil conditions can all influence the displayed value.

Ground Grab® Computerized Ground Balance

Minerals naturally present in soil can interfere with a metal detector's response.

The Gamma 6000's Ground Grab® computerized ground balance allows the detector to quickly measure the ground and compensate for mineralization.

Simply locate an area free of metal and perform the Ground Grab procedure while pumping the search coil above the soil. Once the ground value stabilizes, the detector is ready to hunt with the new ground setting.

Manual Ground Balance

The Gamma 6000 also provides manual ground-balance adjustment.

This gives experienced users greater control when automatic Ground Grab is not ideal, including certain highly conductive or difficult ground conditions.

Manual adjustment can also be useful when you want to fine-tune the detector's response to a specific site.

Ground Mineralization Information

In addition to balancing the detector, the Gamma 6000 provides information about the ground itself.

Its display can indicate the amount of magnetic mineralization present and provides a numerical ground setting.

This information can help experienced detectorists better understand changing soil conditions and adjust their hunting technique accordingly.

Adjustable Discrimination and Multiple Notch

The Gamma 6000 provides both adjustable discrimination and a multiple notch system.

Discrimination allows unwanted lower-value targets to be rejected, while notch provides more selective control over individual target categories.

This gives you the flexibility to configure the detector differently depending on where and what you're hunting.

For example, a coin hunter working a trashy park may use different discrimination settings than a relic hunter searching an old property.

Selectable Audio Target ID

The Gamma 6000 allows you to choose between 1, 2, 3, or 4 audio tones.

Different target categories can produce different audio responses, allowing experienced users to gather useful target information without constantly watching the LCD screen.

The default setting uses three tones, but the audio configuration can be adjusted to match your preferred hunting style.

All Metals Mode

When you want to hear everything beneath the search coil, switch to All Metals Mode.

This mode is useful when maximum target information is more important than rejecting unwanted metals and can be particularly valuable when searching relatively clean sites or investigating areas where unusual targets may be present.

No-Motion Pinpoint Mode

After locating and identifying a target, press and hold the Pinpoint control.

Unlike normal motion searching, Pinpoint Mode allows metal to be detected while the search coil is held stationary over the target.

Move the coil slowly to narrow the detection area and identify the target's center.

During pinpointing, the detector also displays the target's approximate depth in inches, helping you plan a cleaner and more efficient recovery.

Adjustable Sensitivity

Sensitivity can be adjusted from 05 through 99, providing fine control over detector performance.

Higher settings can maximize available performance under stable conditions.

If electromagnetic interference, nearby electronics, power lines, or difficult site conditions cause erratic operation, sensitivity can be reduced until the detector becomes stable.
