The Garrett Vortex VX9 Multi-Frequency Waterproof Metal Detector bundle combines Garrett’s most advanced Vortex detector with a wireless pinpointer, wireless headphones, and a 50" travel bag. It gives detectorists a versatile setup for coin hunting, relic searching, jewelry recovery, beach detecting, and shallow-water searches.
The VX9 offers five selectable single frequencies, Multi-Frequency and Multi-Salt operation, seven search modes, and a three-tier MD-MF Target ID display. The included Garrett PRO-Pointer AT Z-Lynk helps you locate targets more precisely during recovery, while the CS-3 Z-Lynk Wireless Headphones let you hear detector signals without a cable. The Vortex VX9 is designed for detectorists who want extensive control over frequency, target identification, and recovery settings. It offers more frequency choices, search modes, and adjustable controls than the lower Vortex models.
Its three-tier MD-MF Target ID display presents information across ferrous and non-ferrous scales. Adjustable Recovery Speed, Iron Boundary, and Bottlecap Reject settings let you tailor the detector’s response to different sites. With wireless headphones, a compatible wireless pinpointer, and a travel bag included, this package brings together tools for detecting, recovering targets, and transporting your gear.
The Garrett Vortex VX9 offers multiple frequency options to suit different targets and environments:
Choose a single frequency or operating mode based on the search area, targets, and conditions. Multi-Salt adds a dedicated setting for saltwater environments.
The VX9’s three-tier MD-MF Target ID display provides information across ferrous and non-ferrous scales. This can help you evaluate complex signals, including targets that may contain both ferrous and non-ferrous properties.
Target ID is a guide, not a guarantee of what is buried. Ground conditions, target depth, nearby objects, and the target’s shape and orientation can all affect readings.

The VX9 provides three Recovery Speed settings. Recovery Speed controls how quickly the detector responds as the searchcoil moves between targets. A faster setting can be useful when targets are close together, such as in a trashy park or busy search area. Site conditions, sweep technique, and other detector settings also affect target separation.
Fast Mode is designed for competition hunts and locations with closely spaced targets or substantial trash. It gives you a dedicated option for searching areas where you want a faster detector response.
Thin Coins Mode is designed for fine, lower-conductive targets, including hammered silver and thin gold coins. It gives detectorists another search option when looking for small or thin targets.
In Multi-Frequency operation, the VX9 offers six Bottlecap Reject settings and six Iron Boundary settings. These controls let you adjust how the detector responds to bottlecaps and iron signals. You can tailor the settings to your site and search preferences, keeping in mind that discrimination choices may affect which signals you hear.
The VX9 includes Notch Discrimination and High-Resolution Iron Discrimination to help manage target responses. These features provide additional control over which signals you accept or reject during a hunt.
Choose from 2-tone, 3-tone, or 5-tone audio options on the VX9. Volume control lets you adjust the detector’s signal level. The included CS-3 Z-Lynk Wireless Headphones also have volume control so you can adjust listening levels while detecting.
The Vortex VX9 has built-in Garrett Z-Lynk wireless technology. It pairs with compatible Garrett wireless accessories, including the CS-3 Z-Lynk Wireless Headphones and PRO-Pointer AT Z-Lynk Pinpointer. With compatible pairing, you can hear detector and pinpointer alerts through the headphones without a wired connection.
The Garrett Vortex VX9 is fully waterproof and submersible to 16 feet (5 meters). Its 8.5" x 11" DD Raider searchcoil is submersible as well. Use the detector for land searches, shorelines, wet sand, or shallow-water detecting according to Garrett’s operating and care instructions.
The PRO-Pointer AT Z-Lynk is waterproof to 20 feet (6 meters). The CS-3 headphones are water resistant against light rain, but they are not waterproof and must not be submerged.
The PRO-Pointer AT Z-Lynk is a handheld pinpointer that helps narrow down a target’s position after the VX9 signals it. Its wireless connection can send pinpointer alerts to compatible Z-Lynk headphones, letting you hear both detector and pinpointer signals through the CS-3 headphones.
The pinpointer includes a woven belt holster and 9-volt battery. Garrett lists a 3-year limited parts and labor warranty for the PRO-Pointer AT Z-Lynk.
The CS-3 Z-Lynk Wireless Headphones pair with Garrett detectors and accessories equipped with Z-Lynk technology. They provide wireless audio so a headphone cable does not connect you to the detector as you move around your search area.
