Main Differences Between Equinox 700 and 900

1. Gold Detection

If you’re hunting for gold, the Equinox 900 is better. It has a Gold Mode and extra frequency options (20/40 kHz) for finding small gold nuggets. The 700 maxes out at 15 kHz, which isn’t as sensitive to gold.

2. Faster Target Separation

The 900 has more adjustable recovery speed (1-8 vs. 1-3 on the 700), making it better at picking out valuable targets in trashy areas. It also has a wider Iron Bias range (0-9 vs. 0-3) for better discrimination.

3. Extra Accessories and Coils

The Equinox 900 comes with two coils (11” and 6” DD), while the 700 only has the 11” DD coil. The 900 also includes a Minelab Pro-Find 40 Pinpointer, which is handy for pinpointing targets.

4. Better Low-Light Features

Both models have a flashlight, red backlight display, and handgrip vibration for night detecting. However, the 900 has more lighting and vibration options, giving it an edge for low-light hunts.

Which One Should You Get?

Go for the Equinox 700 if:

  • You want a high-quality detector at a lower price.
  • You mainly hunt in parks, fields, or beaches.
  • You don’t need Gold Mode or higher frequencies.

Go for the Equinox 900 if:

  • You hunt for gold and need higher frequencies.
  • You need better target separation in trashy areas.
  • You want extra gear like a Pro-Find 40 Pinpointer and a smaller coil.

Final Thoughts

Both detectors are great, but your choice depends on your budget and needs. If you want gold-hunting power and extra features, go for the Equinox 900. If you need a solid, all-around detector at a lower price, the Equinox 700 is perfect.
