"I Bought this for my wife because I was looking for something as light as possible. I've been using it myself with the 8" coil on extremely trashy sites. Got a mercury Dime @ 9 inches with some iron in the hole, so it does a great job of separating targets. I don't typically use headphones so the volume control is nice. Haven't used the 12" coil yet, but I live near the cost so we'll be heading to the beach soon. Wish it was water proof, but overall it's an awesome machine for the money."
